Check out this awesome little Reindeer Dunny figure from Kid Robot. Is that meant to be his standard harness or some sort of S&M getup? Probably both. He’s read Santa’s list and he knows that you’ve been naughty.

If there were such a thing as a “Nerd City Book Club”, then Scud: The Whole Shebang would most certainly be the book of the moment. Max lent it to me to read while on vacation and I absolutely loved it! To add to the, erm, Scud-Mania, Shocker Toys is FINALLY releasing wave 1 of their Indie Spotlight figures next month. Not only do we get a super-articulated 6″ Scud, but also a black Sol variant figure. Each comes with an Isz for use with the Maxx figure that is also a part of the line. Indie Spotlight wave 1 is available for pre order from shocker here.
First of all sorry to all my fans for not posting anything lately, but my computer got a virus somehow *cough* porn *cough*. But I’m back now, so that is all that is important. Now on with the news.
This past Monday saw a pretty weak Virtual Console lineup as the biggest thing was Mega Man 3 being released with two new Wii Ware titles. Mega Man 3 is the first game in the series to introduce the slide and charge buster to Mega Man offensive repertoire
WiiWare™
Brain Challenge™ (Gameloft, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 1,000 Wii Points): Just like your body, your brain needs to be exercised to stay in shape. Boost your brain and relieve stress through various minigames in a personal session to get a detailed evaluation. Challenge your friends’ brains in delirious party games to see who is the smartest. Test your brain’s abilities in Visual, Memory, Logic, Math and Focus minigames. Compare yourself with friends by challenging their brains in three multiplayer modes. Develop your resistance to stressful situations that could happen in real life. Use a customized Mii™ character to create personal sessions. Choose your favorite personal coach. Track your overall performance with detailed statistics and graphs. The special Kid Test and Senior Test modes will gather everyone around the game.
Yummy Yummy Cooking Jam (Virtual Toys, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone-Animated Blood, Comic Mischief, 1,000 Wii Points): Yummy Yummy Cooking Jam is a frenetically active cooking game in which you must serve food to your customers as quickly as possible. This could be a simple task, but the customers aren’t very patient, and you’ll find a multitude of annoying insects that make the noble mission of satisfying your small gourmets’ stomachs much more difficult. In the game’s Career Mode, your goal is to become the best chef in the city. To do so, you have to prove your worth by cooking in four fantastic restaurants: the Hot Dog, Hamburger, Pizza and Mexican Restaurant. Enjoy playing Yummy Yummy with your family, serving delicious food to the most surprising characters: vampires, ninjas, extraterrestrials and mafia thugs. Put on your chef’s hat, sharpen your knives and turn up the heat.
Mega Man™ 3 (NES™, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone-Mild Cartoon Violence, 500 Wii Points): In the year 200X, the notorious Dr. Wily, now reformed and working for the forces of good, works hand-in-hand with Dr. Light to build a new type of peacekeeping robot. When a new set of eight Robot Masters escapes the lab to wreak havoc on the world at large, only Mega Man can save the day. This time, Mega Man must rely on his new slide move and canine companion Rush to conquer the stages and vanquish evil. A new character, Proto Man, adds to the mystery and appeal of this seminal title in the famous action-game series.
Also big news with the ESRB. The ESRB has updated their website to include more in detail descriptions of games so that parents can understand what they are buying for their kids this Festivus season. I like how more info is getting to parents this way, but I don’t think most parents will go to the website and get this info. Most will probably still look to rely on what is on the box, but this is at least a step in the rigt direction. Below is an example of the new description for Call of Duty World at War, in the past the description would not go into this much detail about what can be seen and heard during gameplay.
Call of Duty: World at War is a first-person shooter in which players assume the role of Allied soldiers in both the European and Pacific Fronts during World War II. Combat can be intense with extensive use of camera effects (e.g., slow-motion, blurring, and screen shakes) and realistic sound effects to highlight the tense and frenetic nature of each battle. Fighting is fast-paced with players using a large array of military weapons (guns, grenades, and flamethrowers). Collateral damage includes sprays of red blood when enemies are shot; maimed appendages from explosions; and flailing and screaming when enemies are set on fire. Cutscenes and historical footage can contain graphic depictions of prisoner/POW executions. Strong profanity can be heard during gameplay (e.g., “f*ck” and “sh*t”).
Finally, we have figured out a new way to post videos so I will look to have a big post about the release of Midways Mortal Kombat vs DC game that is coming out soon. Hopefully this title will take off as with current reports, Midway is really needing a hit on their hands to avoid more layoffs and possible sale of the company.
Max is a huge fan of Rob Schrab, and he thinks you should be too. Originally from Wisconsin, by far one of Nerd City’s favorite states, Schrab studied at art-school in super-awesome Milwaukee. Whilst there, he created Scud: The Disposable Assassin, one of the best, funniest independent comics ever.
Although long, long, long, delayed (like Chinese Democracy long), Image has recently released the entire series in the new omnibus, “Scud: The Disposable Assassin: The Whole Shebang“, which absolutely rules. Scud is also soon-to-be-released (hopefully) as an action figure from oft-beleagured Shocker Toys, making Scud the word in Nerd, once again.
Following interest (misguided, unfortunately) in turning Scud in to a movie, (at one time the project was even linked to conspiracy king Oliver Stone), and the release of a Scud video game on the ill-fated Sega Saturn, Schrab and writing partner Dan Harmon began a relationship with Robert Zemeckis‘ Image Movers production company, which eventually resulted in the super kick-ass Monster House. Seriously, Monster House is one of the best animated movies ever. It’s like the movies Spielberg (who co-produced) used to make. (Please see Goonies, Gremlins)
At about this time, Schrab and Harmon began work on “Heat Vision and Jack” with Ben Stiller. Widely considered to be one of the best pilots never aired, (by Fox, of course), the show starred a young Jack Black as a man on the run from Ron Silver (as Ron Silver) and NASA, and featured Owen Wilson as the voice of Black’s unemployeed roommate/talking motorcycle Heat Vision. It ruled.
Following the untimely demise of the show, Schrab and Harmon went on to create Channel101.com, an online community for comedic film makers that has included work by Black, Harmon, and Schrab, as well as helping to launch SNL’s The Lonely Island crew. It also spawned one of the greatest internet video series ever, Yacht Rock.
Currently, Schrab works on the sublime, filthy-dirty hilariousness that is “The Sarah Silverman Program” on Comedy Central, which recently opened a third season with their highest ratings ever.
In conclusion, Rob Schrab is the bomb. Thank you.
For continuing Schrab updates, please check out his website, Robschrab.com. And Mr. Schrab, please, keep up the good work.

Coheed and Cambria’s Claudio Sanchez signs his new toy release “Kill Audio“, today at 4-6 p.m. at Rotofugi. Although I’m not particularly crazy about the band, this dude seems to be everywhere nerdy, including writing Image Comics‘ Armory Wars, and the figure does look kind of cool. For more info about liking something nerdy from a guy who’s band you hate, please see The Umbrella Academy, available at Chicago Comics.
From Suckadelic, himself:

Over 40 artists will be “Doing their thing” to the figure and package for a super Suck-off for the ages. On October 30th these magnificent creations will be unveiled at the MUNKY KING gallery at 8pm. Man, I wish I could go! There are so many previews of so many great submissions to this show popping up all over the net. However, the one that I’m the most interested in is this one from TriClops Studio (nice name, eh?) that utilizes quite a few vintage MOTU parts:
Check out Suckadelic’s home page here.
The event is to be held at Munky King, their home page is here.
Check out some amazing sneak peeks of entries to the show here.
Last, but not least, the TriClops Studio blog is here.
Real Head has just released what look like the Japanese Kaiju vinyl relatives of Gregory Spines! These Hone Borgs look extra spooky because they are cast in white vinyl and given a black paint for super skeletal goodness. Buy them for me @ Rotofugi here
Suckadelic has contributed to the Art + Action = Obama ‘08 charity fundraiser, this new custom based upon his Sucklord vinyl figure and the Jailbreak Toys Obama action figure. The proceeds form the sale of “The Funky President”, as Suckadelic has dubbed him , go to the Obama campaign.
Will I bid? No. I’m waiting for the McCain figure floating in a jar of pee.
Check out the details of the auction here.

This may literally be the coolest/nerdiest weekend Chicago has ever had. So do it like Nerd City. After swinging by Rotofugi on Friday, Oct. 10th for the La Merde show, and The Comic Vault’s 2 Year Anniversary Jamboree on Saturday afternoon, head back to Rotofugi Saturday night, Oct. 11th, for the Shawnimals‘ Ninjatown Nintendo DS game pre-release party before swinging over to Oh No! Doom for their “We Need Each Other” art/toy show featuring more work from team Shawnimals. I mean, holy shit.
5-8 p.m.
Ben and Max celebrate their triumphant 20th episode with superstar toy designer Veggiesomething and his lady, local craftswoman Rose Miller, as they talk designer toys, the Chicago crafts scene, and being internet hobos, this week on Nerd City.
Pics and links after the jump…
Please Check out Le Merde’s Flickr here for previews of the pieces that he’ll be showing/ selling this Friday night, October 10th at Rotofugi. Nerd City will be in attendance.
