…Or at least televisions. The above video comes from Gizmodo via Fandome and demonstrates EXACTLY why you wear the Wii wrist strap when playing games. I think all nerds have seen the aftermath of the Wiimote-through-the-tv syndrome, but this shows it happening in action. I almost think this was staged due to how close the dude is standing to his set (while bowling no-less!!). I can say that in my experience with the Wii I have had three encounters where if I wasn’t wearing that flimsy little afterthought that I would have either lost my 60″ Sony or a window.
Who is ready to get hurt on your own personal Millenium Falcon? Well now we can all enjoy the fun that sledding has to offer while being as nerdy as possible. Available through Amazon you can have your own personal Millenium Falcon for the holiday season. Priced at $34, it is kinda expensive for basically a saucer sled but someone needs to put Lucas’ kids through college so it might as well be us. If anyone actually buys this, let us know how it turns out.
Today Lucasarts may not be putting out their best efforts when it comes to video games, but 10+ years ago pretty much every PC title they put out was fantastic. From Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle to their early Star Wars games like Tie Fighter; Lucasarts has been a “force” to be reckoned with since the beginning. And coming soon (no release date yet) will be a coffee table book reviewing the history of the company. The book is available for pre-order at Amazon for $60. Could be an interesting read.
If there were such a thing as a “Nerd City Book Club”, then Scud: The Whole Shebang would most certainly be the book of the moment. Max lent it to me to read while on vacation and I absolutely loved it! To add to the, erm, Scud-Mania, Shocker Toys is FINALLY releasing wave 1 of their Indie Spotlight figures next month. Not only do we get a super-articulated 6″ Scud, but also a black Sol variant figure. Each comes with an Isz for use with the Maxx figure that is also a part of the line. Indie Spotlight wave 1 is available for pre order from shocker here.
So I haven’t really been covering much Xbox 360 stuff on here and that is mainly due to my lack of interest in the system. But I have a responsibilty to report the news just like Fox does and keep it fair and balanced. So to start off my 360 news, I thought I would let you all in on a fantastic looking bundle for Gears of War 2. With this highly anticipated game launching this November, many fans will probably want to check out what Amazon has to offer. Just like the Halo 3 Legendary edition with the Master Chief helmet, this limited bundle for GOW2 will include a Lancer replica (which appears to be pretty much to scale). The Lancer is a pretty boss gun with the chainsaw attachment, which the replica will have chainsaw sounds and vibration. Enough with the chatting here is what things will look like. Pics from Amazon.com and teamxbox. Amazon.com description as follows:

So basically The Legend of Zelda is the best video game franchise in my opinion. And we all know how much I love reading philosophy books. So now that this book is coming out, my two greatest loves will be combined. I really am serious about wanting this book though.
With both young and adult gamers as loyal fans, The Legend of Zelda is one of the most beloved video game series ever created. The contributors to this volume consider the following questions and more: What is the nature of the gamer’s connection to Link? Does Link have a will, or do gamers project their wills onto him? How does the gamer experience the game? Do the rules of logic apply in the game world? How is space created and distributed in Hyrule (the fictional land in which the game takes place)? How does time function? Is Zelda art? Can Hyrule be seen as an ideal society? Can the game be enjoyable without winning? The Legend of Zelda and Philosophy not only appeals to Zelda fans and philosophers but also puts video games on the philosophical map as a serious area of study.
I know that Jenga is getting a huge following these days with the tween crowd, so now is a chance for you old people to be hip again and for less than $25.
Say that 10 times fast. You can own the typewriter upon which the late Douglas Adams penned one of the most nerdy books ever - Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. You can buy the typewriter here. (From BBG)
I think I liked the new Zaphod better. Less fake heads. Which brings up another point:
Why is the UK so far behind the rest of the world in regard to tv/film effects? C’mon guys.
