When thinking about writing this blog entry, I did a quick site search, which revealed exactly how much I’ve written about Stinkor-themed customs. So, yeah, quite a few. The truth is, I’ve always really liked the character. The original figure was always a favorite of mine as a kid. Rotten pachouli scent aside, the color scheme and overall design was one of the most visually striking concepts from the middle era of the original line. Even the 200X “staction” version of Stinkor by The Four Horsemen (link) still stands as one of my favorite pieces from that era of the brand. Bringing things to the present, Stinkor is one of my personally most highly anticipated entries to the MOTUC line.
Apparently, I’m not alone. Superstar action figure customizer, Jin Saotome, has really outdone himself with this brilliant MOTUC-style Stinkor figure. Although it’s probably safe to say that the Stinkor that eventually sees mass market from Mattel will be primarily a repaint of their MOTUC Mer-Man (a nod to the vintage line), Jin Saotome’s vision cherry picks parts from the line to create a figure that’s heavily inspired by the Four Horsemen mini statue.

One oft-forgotten corner of the MOTU universe that has always intrigued people is the few generic box art pilots of the various vehicles from the vintage line. These semi-anonymous characters have also made great inspirations for semi-original custom MOTUC fugures, such as the Roton Rider figure by He-Mike here.
This Wind Raider pilot, or “Air-Ro”, as Jin Saotome has dubbed him is also insanely cool. By sticking to primarily MOTUC parts and keeping within the known realms of MOTU cannon, Jin Saotome has created a new character that seamlessly blends into the current MOTUC universe.

Yesterday, we saw that amazing MOTUC-style Lion-o custom, and today, we have this brilliant vintage MOTU-style Mumm-Ra from He-Man.org user Hatesminion. This comes about as a result of a poll that he had posted on the forums about a custom crossover project that he wanted to do in which he took characters from other 80’s properties and redid them as vintage MOTU figures.
This Mumm-Ra is outstanding. I really wish that this was what the vintage figure had looked like. Fingers crossed that Hatesminion continues in the direction of this project, we need all of the Thundercats and Mutants done in this style. And, if that’s not your cup of tea, he has also talked about doing an Optimus Prime and Alf in this style. You may yet be able to create that Alf vs. Optimus Prime vs. Stinkor battle that you’ve always wanted!

For the ignorant, Plundor is a MOTU character that made only one appearance in the classic 80’s cartoon episode, “The Quest for He-Man”. This bunny warlord was never actually released in toy form. For a sweet vintage-style Plundor custom, check out my post about the one by Monsterforge Studios here. This custom, however, is much more along the lines of the 200X figures and Stactions.

From He-Mike:
Base: DCS3 Parasite
Head: Scooby Doo Spooky Demon, Spikes from batman gloves
Chest armor: Mc Donad’s Ram-Man, MAA, Skeletor belt, Zodak loin cloth
Belt: Snout Spout. DCS3 Lex Luthor, MAA
Hands: Snout Spout, DCS3 Parasite, Stinkor
Boots: Snout Spout, MAA

For more info on Plundor, check out his encyclopedia entry at He-Man.org here.

It’s cool to see such a simple, yet effective repaint done by someone who has mad sculpting/ customizing skills. The moral of the story? Sometimes a well executed repaint color scheme can be every bit as impressive as complexly resculpted custom figure. Also, stuff like this should show Mattel that there is still great potential for more original characters that are repaints of existing figures (much like Stinkor and Moss Man back in the 80’s).
And, his eyes freaking glow in the dark!

What? What?

I added a little more color into his costume..I thought it would be cool in addition to smelling like a skunk if he could also shoot his stench. So I added the wrist blasters. It could be filled with water for a squirt effect but, I think I am going to come up with some sort of attachment that looks like the blasters are shooting off some green stuff.. I havent figured that out.. LOL

For as much as I love the wacky, anything goes designs of the figures and characters that Real Head puts out, it’s cool to see an artist use a custom of an RxH toy to pay homage to the line that truly set the standard for anything goesish wackiness, Masters of the Universe. I’ve been a fan of the custom work of Motorbot for quite some time (and have intended to feature some of his designer vinyl/ kaiju work on this blog for a while, now). This particular custom is a colorway of the mini version of the RxH Mutant Head is obviously inspired by the “Evil Master of Odors”, Stinkor. It is my understanding that this custom does not, however, actually stink.

Check out some more of Motorbot’s awesome customs and artwork at his flickr here.
