Do you like cyclops gorillas?  I’ll bet you do.  I’ve actually always dug this Cyclomagnon sculpt from , but this white version with a black paint rub is by far my favorite.  The yellow scarf is a sweet touch, too. You’ve got to love a giant cyclopian gorilla who knows how to accessorize!

I’ve stolen the images for this guy from our friends at , who have him for sale here.

It’s a sweet day for fans of the OG figures!  This brilliant set in “milky white” is going to be available in limited numbers from out friends at Toy Bodega, later today.  Not only is the color super rad on these guys, but I’m also digging the -style paint job on the Evil, and the “burnt marshmallow” look on the Chaos.

Last weekend was ’s Super Festival 50, an event which brought us all sorts of limited edition/ lottery only / pieces that most of us will probably never get our hands on.  Of all of these releases, I feel like the collaborations that did with various other artists/ companies really stold the show.  I’ve expressed in the past my enthusiasm for the Chaos Beast sculpt by , and this was a really cool chance to see what other artists could do with the piece.

Again, these were released in very limited runs (maybe 20 or less) and typically sold in a lottery.  They are by, from left to right, , Shef, Itokin Park, Skulltoys, and Ichiban Boshi.

As I’ve said in the past, when it comes to modern Japanese designer , there is no brand cooler than .  Their figures draw from all aspects of pop culture and have, over the last few years, created a world as odd and amazing as any fantasy/ sci-fi universe, while creating many pieces of high end collectible .

The third series of Mutant Zone figures from started to trickle out late last year, and over the course of 2009, many of them have been popping up, Stateside.  The general theme of this series has been the combination of a figure from series 1 with a figure from series 2.  Of all of these figures, I’m really loving the Chaos Beast figure.  He’s a combination of the Mutant Chaos

and the Cyclomanion

For anyone who is looking to learn more about the wacky/badass world of , I would highly recommend that you check out this section of the Skullbrain message boards.

Also, many of these images are borrowed from , where they have lots of available.  Check them out here.

In celebration of our Tucson roots, the long awaited blue fade set from Real x Head will drop stateside on exclusively at Lulubell. is a huge deal in Tucson, and the town literally goes into celebration mode by 5pm. The blue fade set has been one of the most anticipated sets for since the colorway first reared it’s lovely head last December. The blue fade set consists of the Mutant Evil & Mutant Head figures, cast in clear with a turquoise blue spray fade.

The blue fade Evil & Head retail for US$60 each, and drop on the 5th of May at 5pm Pacific Time. Que bonita!

So what’s the big deal with this colorway? first debuted this fade on the Catkid sculpt, and rumors (desires?) of this fade set quickly followed. Clear also presents several challenges itself. Clear vinyls are actually made by adding specific chemicals to the standard vinyls to make them translucent. These additives change the properties of the a bit, making it softer and more easily distorted when being pulled out of the mold. In this particular run for example, less then half made it to finished product.

So Rad!!!

To get your very own set, go to the Toy Bodega here.

Also, check out the original article here.

For as much as I love the wacky, anything goes designs of the figures and characters that Real Head puts out, it’s cool to see an artist use a of an toy to pay homage to the line that truly set the standard for anything goesish wackiness, .  I’ve been a fan of the work of for quite some time (and have intended to feature some of his / work on this blog for a while, now).  This particular is a colorway of the mini version of the Mutant Head is obviously inspired by the “Evil Master of Odors”, .  It is my understanding that this does not, however, actually stink.

Check out some more of ’s awesome customs and artwork at his flickr here.

I know that I haven’t reported much on the happenings on the Japanese / front as of late (although there has already been a lot of good stuff this year), but this guy is too cool to pass up.  Not yet released in the States, this -inspired Evil-style figure from Real Head in orange and “milky white” is one of the most exciting designs that I’ve seen in quite some time.

To keep up to date on when this guy shows up in the States, follow this thread on the SkullBrain message boards, here.

Check out these awesome new offerings from Real Head! I’m a huge fan of the sculpt, and the new magenta colorway is pretty rad. The new blue Bigaro is pretty badass as well, but the most badass of all of the badass new offerings from is this, the Mazinger-style 9″ Bigaroid:
