Today marks the day we received what some consider the best, myself included, Mario Bros. game of all time. Yes 20 years ago today, Super Mario Bros. 3 was unleashed on the masses not only in stores but also in the movies with The Wizard teasing us of it’s impending arrival two months prior. To me this is still the best Super Mario Bros. game out there (sorry, Mario World on SNES is boring after you unlocked all the levels and way to easy to play through and beat) as it added so much onto the original Mario game and today is still enjoyable and somewhat challenging to play through entirely. So if you have time today or this weekend, do yourself a favor and give Super Mario Bros. 3 another play through.
Thanks to gonintendo for the heads up on this anniversary.
Variety is reporting that Spider Man 4 will be filming in full 3D. Now there is no report on if the movie will be filmed with 3D cameras or just be upgraded to 3D in post production like the majority of current 3Dmovies are. No matter how enjoyable Avatar was in 3D, I personally don’t see the need for all these movies to be 3D as well, hopefully this fad will end sooner than later but by the looks of things it wont. Spider Man 4 is scheduled to be released on July 3rd 2012 and will be directed by Marc Webb. No casting announcements have been made at this time.
Well it’s January so it seems it’s time for another Apple product announcement, and next week looks like a doozy. Invitations to an event on the 27th were sent out today to most major media outlets (um…Apple, you seem to have forgot Nerd City…just saying) with the tag line “Come See Our Latest Creation.” All bets are that Apple is finally ready to reveal their much rumored and talked about tablet device. Thanks to the secrecy of the Cupertino company there’s NOTHING for sure about this mythical device. Oversea suppliers are pointing at 10″ screen sizes, the success of the iPhone makes is a near certainty that it’ll be touch based, and the more recent news that multiple publishing outlets have been approached lead to the device having a ebook/magazine reader ability. Possible names? iSlate, iPad, and the more recent one to gain some traction is iBook. Make sure you check out the link below for a full rundown of the rumors that are out there from Gizmodo, because there’s a lot of interesting things being said right now. Now, what would I like to see you might ask? Well I’ll tell ya! After the jump of course!
Well after months of rumors and speculation, we can finally confirm that Netflixstreaming service is coming to the Wii this spring. Much like the PS3, Wii users will be required to use a boot up disc that will then connect to the Netflix service allowing the user to choose from thousands of movies and tv shows to stream directly off the internet (order your disc here). The price will be the same as any other Netflix plan, so for $8.99 a month you can take advantage of unlimited streaming on your Wii. No plans at this time to move away from the disc based service, but we could always see an official Netflix channel in the future.
With Sony starring as Stormin’ Norman/Green Goblin of course….
“Spider-Man 4″, which has had significant problems between Sony and director Sam Raimi concerning the story as of late, has been completely canned for a “reboot” of the movie series. Ain’t It Cool News linked to their sources of Nikke Finke and Mike Fleming (article here) reporting that since Raimi couldn’t make the release date with the movie he wanted to film Sony decided to pull the plug and relaunch the series. That means a new web-slinger and supporting cast of actors as well. After the story broke Sony sent out a press release that said:
“Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012.”
Hopefully we won’t get another origin out of this and Sony will realize that they can just jump into a great story. Going back to high school and ignoring the first three movies is kinda “One More Day”ish which REALLY won over fans with its retconning of more than a years worth of issues and the marriage to MJ. While losing Raimi/Maguire is a big deal, it’s not the end of the world. We all saw how “Spider-Man 3″ ended up with an unhappy Raimi at the wheel, so MAYBE this will be for the best. But I also think that the studio stepped in and forced some of what we saw with the third movie. I mean there are plenty of great ways to do another Spider-Man franchise seeing how the character has the second best stable of villians, just slightly behind Batman. The press release wasn’t specific on a date other than “Summer 2012.” I personally would love to see a “Kraven’s Last Hunt” on the big screen, but that’s just me. Best wishes to Raimi, Maguire, and company, for their part in reviving Hollywood’s interest in comics and for making us believe a nerd can swing.
Oh. My. God. I tell ya, when I become a billionare (which I’m well on my way to after being laid off before Xmas) I would own this. I highly consider the “Back to the Future” trillogy to be my favorite movies of the 80’s. I mean I played “BTTF” in my basement growing up. How, you might ask? Well that’s a conversation for another time. Like, never. But anyway, this is the most accurate “BTTF” DeLorean ever created. Even rivaling the prop cars that Universal built for the actual movies. It was built by Gary Weaver, who is the go-to guy for building your own time machine. Hell, he owns the site bttfparts.com, so yeah, I think this man knows his movie accuracy. And everything works. The time circuits. All the sound effects. All the little lights. The fucking doors even make the movie sound when opened. This is a true work of retro art. Would I drive it? Every god-damned day! This baby is up for grabs on eBay at the moment with a starting bid of a cool $89K. Not for the everyday slave worker bee for sure, but for a rich nerd out there this probably just made them pass out. When this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you’re gonna see some serious shit.
Thanks to Gizmodo and Jalopnik for the story and gallery of shots.
Featuring a ton of cool, scary movies, and fright-film vendors perfect for the twisted gift-giver, this should be a truly terrifying good time. So head on over to The Portage and celebrate a cruel Yule. (Ed. Note: Four Christmases, the scariest holiday movie of all time, will not be shown)
Starting November 22nd at the Museum of Modern Art, they will be presenting a retrospective on Tim Burtons career. This showing will include many props from his films, personal letters to his actors, paintings of his interpretation of his movies and many other things his fans should enjoy. This event will run till April 26th of next year so there is plenty of time to plan your trip. Check out the official MOMA exhibit page for further details on the event and check out MTV Splashpage for some preview photos of some of the work that is offered. I’ve attached my two favorite preview pieces by Burton, including a design for Brainiac in his unused Superman relaunch.

Our friends at Mondo are releasing some really cool limited edition posters/prints of your favorite spooky movies just in time for Halloween! These prints are so well done that they stand on their own as pieces of art, but really are “must haves” for fans of these films.
From Mondo:
Freddy Krueger is not a nice dude, but audiences loved him so much in the 80’s that A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET single handedly saved a major Hollywood film company from going bankrupt. Is there anything Robert Englund can’t do?
Poster by Methane Studios. 19″x27″ screen print. Hand numbered. Printed by Methane Studios. Edition of 150.
From Mondo:
Do you think John Carpenter is secretly psychic? He must’ve been to have the foresight to put his name above everyone of his film’s titles. I mean, how else would we differentiate his films from the shitty remakes? Oh wait, I just answered my own question…his were classics and the remakes are…well…shitty.
Poster by Methane Studios. 19″x27″ screen print. Hand numbered. Printed by Methane Studios. Edition of 150.
From Mondo:
This movie features one of the best actor transformations of all time by Michael Keaton, won an Oscar for best makeup and spawned a hugely popular children’s cartoon. Why in the world didn’t they end up making the sequel, Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian?! One of Hollywood’s biggest mistakes.
Poster by Drew Millward. 12″x24″ screen print. Hand numbered. Printed by D&L Screen Printing. Only 65 available through Mondo!
And, in a super-limited edition of 15 is the variant glow-in-the-dark version of the Beetlejuice print.

Through IGN, Capcom has released the official trailer for Super Street Fighter IV. The new trailer shows off the three announced new fighters and their repsective ultra combos. And after watching this, I think Juri will be a fighter I will look to use quite a lot. Also, IGN has a good interview with SFIV producer Yoshinori Ono which can be read right Here.
