Nerds worldwide are still waiting to hear how Amazon.com is going to handle a recent graphic novel pricing snafu that could cost the internet giant thousands of dollars and formally-dedicated consumers.
Blamed on a computer glitch, the mistake resulted in normally-expensive hardcover comic omnibus’ being sold for as low as $8. Originally reported on Bleeding Cool, Nerds from all over the world flocked to the mistake, buying multiple copies of each mislabeled book, skewing Amazon’s bestseller list for the better of two days. Now, Nerds want to know what will happen with their orders, as reports have surfaced of multiple cancellations and modifications.
The question is “what should be done?”. Should Amazon be punished for their mistake? Is it the Nerds, who technically have done nothing wrong, that should suffer?
Normally, this sort of thing could easily be ignored, but the sheer number of dollars involved, and the whole live-by-the-internet/die-by-the-internet thing makes this story of particular interest to us here @ Nerd City. Stay tuned for more updates as this clash of Nerd-ery continues.

Really what more could you want. Luckily artist Patricio Oliver has delivered on all three fronts. His art is a fantastic pop art style and he has some fantastic X-men, He-Man and other super hero related art on his site, even some in the Bruce Timm animated style. So head on over to his site to check out his great work and much bigger copies of my two favorite pieces are below.
We already know that Ghostface, Raekwon and Method Man are putting out an album together, but what we didn’t know is that the fantastic comic book artist Chris Bachalo is also involved in the collaboration. Unfortunately Chris is not providing any slick rhymes, but he did provide some fantastic art for the cover of the album. With beats by RZA, Mathematics and others, Wu-Massacre should be nothing but great…..hopefully. Wu-Massacre is set to be released on March 30th and can be pre-ordered from Amazon.com. Check out one of the singles Meth VS Chef 2 below.
Max and Ben welcome comic book/ video game/ entertainment journalist Brian Warmoth. They discuss his career in the industry and pontificate on the future of media. If you check out Episode 78 of Nerd City, you won’t only be cooler, you also might learn something. (Gasp!)
Awesome, awesome, awesome. Greatest comic book shop in the world/our sponsor Chicago Comics presents this brand new Alex Ross print of their female guardian, La Femme Comique.
The film appears to share a sensibility with our good buddy Josh Elder’s not-for-profit “Reading with Pictures“, and it’s exciting to see the overall cause get publicity.
Yesterday, at Toy Fair in New York, Mattel unveiled quite a bit of new MOTUC stuff. Some of it was insanely exciting, some of it was, frankly, cringe-worthy (and that’s saying a lot when you’re talking MOTU!). The reveal that impressed me the most was the new Whiplash figure that they showed, complete with alt 200x-accurate head. Additionally, Count Marzo will finally be getting his first action figure likeness, as well as a super cool new MOTUCShe-Ra with both 80’s toy accurate and cartoon accurate heads. It was also announced that Keldor will be a “bonus” quarterly figure that will essentially be an variant of Skeletor in much the same way that Battle Armor He-Man was a variant of He-Man. A really big suprise, however, was that there will be an official release of Gygor, the giant yellow ape figure that never made it off of the drawing board of the original line.
Additionally, this sweet rotocasted giant Tytus figure will see reloease this year as another bonus figure. The intertubes are abuzz with controversey over the fact that he’s not going to be quite as large as the vintage version of the figure. But, what can you do? All in all a pretty cool re-design. Also, at Tytus’s feet, you can see pieces from what will be a bonus “Weapons Pack” that will feature additional weapons and accessories for your figures in alternate colors.
And then there’s this thing. It was announced that one of the MOTUC exclusives for SDCC this year will be this tow pack, featuring Skeletor (with a missing tooth) and Mo-Larr, the Eternian Dentist. Whatever. I’m all for poking fun at MOTU, but I always felt that the Robot chicken Mo-Larr sketch was honestly pretty lame. Here it is, in case you’ve never seen it:
Also worth noting is that Mattel unveiled a second DCUC vs. MOTUC 2 pack that will feature Skeletor vs. Lex Luthor. The comic-style recolor of Skeletor is pretty cool, but in general, the whole thing is pretty “meh” for me. It will, however, get MOTUC on the shelves of Toys R Us. So, I suppose that’s cool.
All images stolen from the good people at ASM, check out all of their MOTUCToy Fair pics here.
And the hits just keep on coming. C2E2 has just announced even more awesome guests for their upcoming pop culture extravaganza, including DC luminary Dan DiDio, Planet Hulk mastermind Greg Pak, and Deadpool’s Daniel Way, amongst others.
The team @ C2E2 keeps bringing the heat, and this event is shaping up to be the biggest show of the year.
