Well I guess this was inevitable considering how big this 3D fad is right now, but I for one am not liking this news. In an interview with the LA Times both Kenneth Branagh (director of Thor) and Kevin Johnston (director of Captain America) have both confirmed that their respective movies will be released in 3D. Thor will of course have to be up converted as it was not filmed in 3D like the upcoming Green Lantern and Spider-Man movies, but Captain America could be filmed for 3D if Johnston decides to go that route. Currently movies that were not filmed in 3D and are instead up converted, Clash of the Titans and Alice in Wonderland, still make good money but are heavily criticized for their poor up converting process as they were rushed to meet the 3D boom. The only positive is that both Thor and Captain America had initial plans for 3D work done in post production and the up conversion process has gotten much better as of late for films so these could end up looking good. All in all I’d prefer these not to be in 3D myself, but if done properly could be very entertaining.
As an added bonus, the LA Times article provided a brand new picture of Thor, Odin and Loki all together.
