With zombies, mad men, and ex-math-turned-meth-dealers garnering most of AMC’s attention, you might have shamefully missed their beautifully shot, gritty-as-dirt western, Hell On Wheels.
Commonly referred to (pun intended) as Deadwood Lite, H.O.W. stands on it’s own as a gripping, complex, and violent look at America’s fabled (yet troubled) conquering of the West.
The spirited cast is rife with scene stealers, including Common (finally in a good part), Colm Meaney, Anson Mount, and Nerd cinema warrior Tom Noonan (Monster Squad, Robocop 2, Last Action Hero). It’s becoming very clear the Western is coming back in a big way, and nobody is currently doing better than Hell On Wheels.
Season 1 is currently out on Blu-Ray/DVD and Season 2 hits AMC in August.
