Long a source of some of the funniest shit on television, our friends across the pond (England) continue to produce off-beat, absurd, slightly-edgy-in-that-cute-British sort of way TV. One of the best of these recent BBC exports is “The IT Crowd“.
For those who haven’t yet seen it, The IT Crowd is a sitcom (not always a dirty word) about the smarter-than-though IT department of a large, generic British company. Whereas the other well-known work-themed English comedy thrived on keeping the misery and jokes rooted in reality, The IT Crowd takes joy in skirting around the rules of realism for the sake of satire, and continues the proud UK tradition of the mis-communication related hijink.
Featuring a supporting cast borrowed heavily from Team Mighty Boosh, The IT Crowd is a must-watch for any Nerdy Anglophile (Hear that Dr. Who-vians?)
In an interesting side note, there was actually supposed to be an American version of the show starring Joel Mchale, which made it to pilot stage, and was thankfully cancelled.
Watch The IT Crowd, currently streaming on Netflix.
