New X-men and Captain America Game News from NYCC

October 7, 2010

This week at the New York Comic Con, Marvel announced the first solo Captain America game along with the newest X-men game in their continued franchise.

Marvel along with SEGA will be producing the Captain America game which will be a 3rd person action game set in the WWII era. This game fortunately will not just rehash what we see in the movie but will have it’s own brand new story written by Christos Gage who currently writes the fantastic Avengers Academy comic book. Now the only downfall to this, and no matter how great the game looks, is that outside of Batman: Arkham Asylum there haven’t really been any good comic book games as of late, especially on SEGA’s track record (I’m looking at you Iron Man and Iron Man 2) but we can always hope that this will prove me wrong. Watching the trailer the gameplay looks fantastic and we will all be able to judge for ourselves when Captain America is released next year.

Newly announced today is X-men: Destiny which according to the limited information received in the press release states that this will be

an all-new original video game casting players as new mutant recruits in a rich, branching storyline that features a deep element of choice and gives players ultimate control of their destiny. .

This gives me hope as it sounds like a possible Knight of the Old Republic game where you will be able to determine all powers, appearance, skills and affiliation with good or evil as the game progresses, which in return would offer quite a lot of replay value with all the possibilities that you could create. Not much more is known about the game, but I will have updates as soon as I get them for you.
