Disney to purchase Marvel Ent.

August 31, 2009

Spidey Lion King
Announced this morning, Disney will be looking to buy Marvel Ent for $4 billion.  This is quite odd news to me as nothing of this announcement has been going around the net so I was very shocked to see this news this morning.  The sale will include the ownership of all Marvel Characters and likenesses.  There is no word on how this will impact Marvels movies, comics, toys or videogames at this times, but that information should be going out soon.

Disney Chief Executive Robert Iger said in a statement:

“We believe that adding Marvel to Disney’s unique portfolio of brands provides significant opportunities for long-term growth and value creation,”
“Disney is the perfect home for Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses,” said Marvel Chief Executive Ike Perlmutter. “This is an unparalleled opportunity for Marvel to build upon its vibrant brand and character properties by accessing Disney’s tremendous global organization and infrastructure around the world.”

Marvel really seemed to be headed in a very Disney-esque direction, already. Maybe this will make it easier for Joe Q. to accomplish all of his goals.
I know that a lot of people are complaining about this acquisition, but if you are digging the way that Marvel is handling things, currently, this is probably a good thing.
      I say, “meh”.

I see this as Disney owning Marvel but still letting them do their own thing. Basically just a way to finance bigger Marvel projects and collect easy money from Marvel as well.

Plus who knows what we could see by Pixar and Marvel going forward.
