There has been many rumors going around as of late that both systems will be receiving price cuts or revamped hardware and with Gamescom in Germany coming up in the next few weeks, the official announcements could come then.
First we have the rumor of the “slim” PS3. A few weeks back pictures were leaked showing what appears to be the box for the slim PS3, but of course Sony has no official comment on the whole thing. But if it’s anything like the PS2, then a slim model is more than likely in the future. On top of the PS3 being 70% cheaper to produce today from what the cost was at launch, a slim model and price drop could help boost sales.
From Microsofts perspective, it seems that the Pro model of the Xbox 360 is going the way of the dodo. Recent pics of the new 360 box along with an upcoming advertisement show that the Pro model is no longer represented along with the Elite model dropping down to $299, which is the current Pro model price point.
So if you still haven’t jumped into the next generation of gaming yet, I say wait till Gamescom next week for possible announcements. It could save you some money in the long run.
