Screw You, Hollywood: Cirque Du Freak

Everything

In a total bummer move, Hollywood has sanitized and candy-coated what could have been a very cool movie.  Based on the book series by Darren Shan, Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant has taken a cue from the glut of recent kid-friendly/sexy vampires who don’t act anything like vampires movies and toned it down to PG-13 territory.  The original plot from the book series is basically this: two kids, bored with their town, discover a flyer for a circus.  They go, and it’s a total freakshow.  Turns out one of the barkers is actually a vampire.  One of the kids gets sucked into the disturbing world of freaks and vampires, and it’s up to his friend to draw him out.  Sounds great, right?  Sounds dark and twisted.  But no.  Just another Harry Potter clone.  Check out the CGI-heavy trailer and shed a tear for what could have been.  Gorehounds like me can’t keep having interesting plotlines be turned to shit.  This could have been a great vehicle for John C. Reilly.

Ugg…that does look pretty bad. It’s a shame as the premise is nice. I’d rather watch Lost Boys 2 again than this new flick.
