Apple held their press event today to refresh their notebook line. The Macbook has been redesigned with an aluminum case, LED backlighting, and multi-touch glass trackpad-all features that up until now were Macbook Pro only. The Macbook Pro’s biggest update is the standard feature of choosing between the normal graphics chip or the included “turbo” chip that will reduce battery life but increase performance on the fly. Apple is continuing the low end plastic Macbook for a reduced price as well, $999, marking their first laptop under a grand. Prices for the new models are $1299/$1599 for the 13″ Macbooks and $1999/$2499 for the 15″ Pro-all available tomorrow. A 17″ Pro is still being designed and should be out sooner rather than later. Also unveiled at the event was a new Apple Cinema Display. It’s 24″ and features built in power and video adapters for the Macbooks. It’s $899 and will be ready to ship in November.
